Dad turing 50 gave us the perfect excuse to head back to two of our favourite destinations, Miami and the Bahamas. We hopped on a plane to Miami and after 12 hours of travelling we finally arrived at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
The first morning we headed out for a morning walk around Brickell Key (the island off Miami our hotel was on), because we were up at 5am, two hours before breakfast was even open! Bloody Jet Lag! All the skyscrapers looked amazing with the sun rise in the background and it felt good to stretch our legs after all that travelling.
After one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had, we decided to head down to South Beach at 8am and have a wonder down the beach. I’ve never seen as many joggers in my whole life, they well and truly put me to shame! The promenade was quiet at this time, so we walked the hole way down to Lincoln Road to have a peek in some of the shops before stopping for some lunch. I wore a two piece set from Isabel Marant, with Chanel espadrilles, Gucci belt and a YSL bag that I stole off mum!
At 4pm, we got a taxi back to the hotel and got changed to go to a Miami Marlins v New York Mets baseball game. It was such a good game to go see, because so many home runs were scored. I loved it so much as definitely recommend going to see a baseball game if you are ever in America, the atmosphere is unbelievable.
The second day, after our morning gym session, we headed to Bayside. Mum had booked a speed boat tour of all the surrounding islands. Of course we were up early again so had some time to kill, the shops aren’t that great in this area so I wouldn’t recommend going here unless you have a boat tour booked. I wore a Charli white top, a zara leopard print skirt and YSL blogger bag again.
We were called to board ‘Thriller’, I’m an adrenaline junkie and absolutely loved it. I would highly recommend you book this hour long speedboat if you’re in Miami, it was so fun and something different to do.
After being thrown around a bit, we got the tour bus back to South Beach and visited the famous Betsy hotel for lunch. I had an amazing chicken salad, I was dying for some rosé, but of course I’m not 21!! A short walk back to the hotel and we spent the afternoon sunbathing next to Proudlock from MIC, I was too scared to ask for a picture!
The next morning we were up and packed, ready to fly to Eleuthera island in the Bahamas. We boarded a small plane to take us there, which Mum was having a panic attack on basically the whole way! I loved it, the views were unbelievable.
I have never visited a hotel like it. The Cove Eleuthera was a place of dreams and I was so lucky to visit this amazing island. We got straight out in the sunshine and I finally got a rosé in my hand! We spent the day on the beach and swimming in the sea, it was so lovely to be relaxed after a stressful time at Uni. Kayaking and paddle boarding was on the agenda as well as some gorgeous cocktails and James did some snorkelling, finding and capturing some photos of amazing fish! My bikini was from River Island.
That night we ate in the hotels restaurant and it was absolutely beautiful. I had a baked sweet potato and some chilli prawns. I was wearing a dress by Isabel Marant and shoes by Jimmy Choo. It was so nice to sit and reflect on the amazing day that we had and how lucky we were to all be there.
Day 2 on Eleuthera was again a beach day at the hotel. My bikini was Asos own brand and I loved wearing it. The day was spent chilling out, sunbathing and people watching as everyone tried to paddle board! That night we got a taxi to the North of the Island and ate at Daddy Joe’s restaurant in Gregory Town, a spot recommended by the locals and it was a treat! It was decorated Caribbean style with lots of family recipes on the menu. I wore a top by Whistles, Self Portrait skirt, Aquazzura shoes and a Sophie Anderson bag.
We headed to bed with very full stomachs!
On Wednesday we decided to head to Harbour Island, one of my favourite islands in the Bahamas. I have very fond memories of this place from when I was younger and remember it being so homely and beautiful, full of such friendly people with quirky shops. Not forgetting the unbelievable pink sands beach. We hopped on a water taxi and a five minute ride and we were there.
The island is so small so we hired a golf cart to get us round. The first place we went to was the infamous Pink Sands beach, where we spend the morning sun bathing and swimming in the beautiful waters. Sip Sip is another famous location on the island, a quirky Caribbean bar that over looks the beach, we were first in the queue when it opened at 11am and enjoyed a meal and drinks for a few hours. Funnily enough, Proudlock was sat on the table next to us after first seeing him in Miami (obviously he was following us)!
Slightly worse for wear we jumped back onto the golf cart and headed to one of our favourite hotels. Pink Sands is a gorgeous hotel located on the beach with stunning villas and an amazing Blue Bar. We went to the Blue Bar and enjoyed a couple of drinks for a few hours, which brought back some amazing memories from when we stayed there 6 years ago. Afterwards, we browsed some of the islands boutique shops.
Going to Harbour Island was probably one of the best days of the trip for me because of how much I love it there. Please go if you are staying anywhere near or can get a boat across because it’s definitely worth a visit and one of my favourite places in the world.
The next day we decided to take the hotel’s boat out for the day to go snorkelling and fishing. We left about 1pm and after an hours long ride we came to a large reef. We spent some time looking at all the amazing fish and just enjoying swimming in the sea (even mum got in)! The guys then took us to a deeper part of the ocean so the men could do some fishing. Hours went buy as we just enjoyed fishing, drinking beer and sunbathing on the end of the boat.
It was time to head back to shore and we faced a two hour long ride back. Now, when I say the sea was rocky, I mean, rocky! The two hours left us with bruises all over, made worse by the fact that we’d all got a bit sunburnt! It was a laugh though and a highlight of the trip! The day was finished off in the hotels’ bar and then we headed to bed. My bikini is from ‘Baarandbass’ in London.
The final few days were spent at the hotel just sunbathing and enjoying the beach. We woke up early every day thanks to the jet lag and managed to make the most of everyday! We were them Brits that were our sunbathing at 9am before it was even sunny! One day I wore a beach cover up by Pitusa, which I absolutely love and a bikini by Zimmerman!
The final night was spent back at Harbour Island and we visited a restaurant called ‘Rock House’ for dinner. This was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I chose a caprese salad to start and a fillet steak for main, it was absolutely divine. The staff were all so lovely and Dad was mortified that they came out with a whol song and dance when they found out it was his birthday but it was nice.
I wore a dress by 3.1 Phillip Lim and Aquazzura shoes. It was a lovely meal to end the most amazing holiday.
24 hours of travelling awaited us as we woke up the next morning, but we’d had such an amazing time I don’t think any of us cared – we’ll mum did because she had to get back on that tiny plane! I could’ve stayed there forever though and I definitely want to go back in th future.
